Bhagavad Gita 2.70

Be like the ocean: let wants and worries flow in without letting them overflow you.

Bhagavad Gita · Chapter 2, Verse 70

āpūryamāṇam acala-pratiṣṭhaṁ
samudram āpaḥ praviśanti yadvat
tadvat kāmā yaṁ praviśanti sarve
sa śāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī

Translation

As rivers flow into the ocean, which is ever being filled yet remains still, so the person into whom all desires flow without disturbance attains peace — not the one who chases desires.

In simple words Interpretation

Be like the ocean: let wants and worries flow in without letting them overflow you.

Context

Krishna closes his description of the steady-minded person with this image of the ocean — full, receiving, yet undisturbed.

When this may help

When you feel pulled in many directions by wants, comparisons or restlessness.

Reflection question

What would change if you let a want simply be there, without acting on it right away?

A small practice

The next time you reach for your phone without a reason, pause and take one breath first.
